Read, Study, Memorize
Read. In order to know God’s Word well and in turn get to know God better, we need to read God’s Word every day. “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God” (I John 5:13). Reading God’s Word means to sit down each day, with your Bible, and read a few chapters, or even a book. The goal in reading God’s Word is to let the big picture of who God is, the life of Jesus, and the whole Bible speak to your heart. We’ve provided a number of reading plans here.
Study. Studying God’s Word is digging deep into the Bible and discovering how it applies to your life. “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (II Timothy 2:15). When you study the Bible, take it a few verses at a time. For each of those verses, ask yourself: What does this verse say; what does it mean; and how does it apply to your life? We recommend this method of Bible study in order to gain the most from your time spent in God’s Word. God desires you to be a “workman” for Him that knows His Word and isn’t ashamed to share it. Here, we’ve included more information on this Bible study method, passages to read this month, and a way to view our staffs’ personal responses to these passages.
Memorize. When we hide God’s Word in our hearts, we hide Jesus in our hearts (John 1:14). We are equipped to stop the devil in his tracks. He can not defeat us because “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world” (I John 4:4). Therefore, we must saturate our mind and heart with the Word of God that it may be brought to our remembrance when we need it (John 14:26). “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee” (Psalm 119:11). While we may read three chapters of the Bible each day and dig deep into three verses each day, we may only memorize one verse each week, but every word we memorize is a tool and a defense. For more help with memorizing scripture, take a look at our memory page here. When you read, study, and memorize each day, you will get to know God’s Word. You will get to know Jesus better as you spend time with Him through His Word. Try it. By saturating yourself in Jesus each day, you’ll live a transformed life.
