Set Your Affections Above
VERSE: Colossians 3:2 – “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
The Bible tells us that Jesus is a friend that sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24). We are also told that He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). These are but two of the promises that God gives us. These should bring joy to your heart and a smile to your face. When we realize the greatness and the goodness of God, we can’t help but find the peace of God. This peace comes from knowing that God loves us and is providing for us. When we fully grasp this truth, we are changed. We no longer want the things of this world or to partake of what the world has to offer. We want the things of God. We want to be part of what God is doing and to be in His presence. This is what Colossians 3:2 is telling us. We need to be focused on the things of God. We need to be about our Father’s business, and we need to be delighted in Him. When we have our focus on the right thing, God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and the works of these, then we will experience the abundant life that God intended for us to experience. We will have the peace of God, the protection of God, the blessings of God, the joy of the Lord, and be like Him. We will be like minded in Christ and will find a life not only worth living but worth giving to others in sacrificial service to God. Oh, how He loves You and wants to be your focus. Remember you are loved!
Prayer: Oh Lord, give me a closer walk with You. Help me to delight in Your goodness, to know You in Your fullness, and to dwell in Your presence. Lord, teach me to walk in Your ways. Make me and mold me into what You would have me be. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
