Song: “I’d Rather Have Jesus”
By:  Rhea Miller and George Beverly Shea

1 I’d rather have Jesus than silver or gold;
I’d rather be His than have riches untold;
I’d rather have Jesus than houses or lands.
I’d rather be led by His nail pierced hand

Chorus:
Than to be the king of a vast domain
Or be held in sin’s dread sway.
I’d rather have Jesus than anything
This world affords today.

2 I’d rather have Jesus than men’s applause;
I’d rather be faithful to His dear cause;
I’d rather have Jesus than worldwide fame.
I’d rather be true to His holy name [Chorus]

3 He’s fairer than lilies of rarest bloom;
He’s sweeter than honey from out the comb;
He’s all that my hungering spirit needs.
I’d rather have Jesus and let Him lead [Chorus]

VERSE:  Proverbs 22:4, “By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honor, and life.”

It is funny how we spend most of our lives seeking wealth.  Sometimes, we are seeking it for our simple existence, other times we are seeking it because we want to be rich and famous.  Regardless of the reasons we are seeking wealth, silver and gold, we always find that they are not enough to satisfy us.  Worldly fame and fortune will not give us peace, joy, or happiness.  In fact, the pursuit of it will oftentimes ruin our lives, destroy our peace, and isolate us from the ones we really love.  But, understanding that our wealth is in our relationship with Jesus and that through reliance on Him we can all be satisfied, fills the void in our lives and the longing of our heart.  Just as this verse says, we need to humble ourselves before God and place our full dependence upon Him.  We need to trust Him for all our needs and to pursue a right relationship with Jesus.  It is this pursuit that will result in true satisfaction.  It is this pursuit, the pursuit of a strong relationship with Jesus, that will result in peace, protection, and joy.  Remember, Jesus loves you.  You are loved!

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, keep my eyes focused on You.  Help me to pursue You with all my energy, my strength, and my heart.  Help me to know that You provide all my needs and in You I am safe and loved.  Help me to rely solely on You and to humble myself before You.  In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen

*Sunday and Wednesday encouragements are written for our friends in Assisted Living, who we are unable to see regularly, due to COVID. We pray they are a blessing for you as well!
