Song: “Bringing In the Sheaves”
Knowles Shaw

1 Sowing in the morning, sowing seeds of kindness,
Sowing in the noontide and the dewy eve,
Waiting for the harvest and the time of reaping —
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

Refrain:
Bringing in the sheaves, bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.
Bringing in the sheaves,
bringing in the sheaves,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

2 Sowing in the sunshine, sowing in the shadows,
Fearing neither clouds nor winter’s chilling breeze;
By and by the harvest and our labor ended –
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves. [Refrain]

3 Going forth with weeping, sowing for the Master,
Though the loss sustained our spirit often grieves;
When our weeping’s over He will bid us welcome –
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.

VERSE:  Romans 12:21, “Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”

As humans, our first response to someone doing us wrong is to fight right back with even more negativity than they had delivered to us.  We have this primal need to produce more harm for them than they had caused us.  This is our nature. To be exact, it is our flesh in full control of our actions.  Clearly, when we see it for what it is, we understand that this is not appropriate behavior.  We cannot treat people negatively just because they treat us badly.  Afterall, look to Jesus and the example He set before us.  When he was ridiculed, He said nothing.  When Judas betrayed Him, He fed Him and washed His feet just like every other disciple.  Jesus lived a life of compassion, love, service and humility.  We must live like Jesus.  Jesus loves you.  You are loved.

Prayer:  Lord, in a world where I can be anything, please help me to be kind, compassionate and loving.  Create in me a new heart, a heart that loves like You love.  Give me wisdom to react to all of life’s trials with Your grace and humility.  Help my life to be a living testimony of what You can do when Your children submit to You.  Polish me from the inside out and make me shine for You.  In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

*Sunday and Wednesday encouragements are written for our friends in Assisted Living, who we are unable to see regularly, due to COVID. We pray they are a blessing for you as well!
