Song: “What a Friend We Have In Jesus”

Charles Crozat Converse

What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
And what a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer

Oh, what peace we often forfeit
Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

VERSE:  II Corinthians 1:2-3—“A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly; and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”

Life is lonely without friends.  In fact, oftentimes, it is our earthly friends that make the love of God so real to us.  They reach out to you when you are lonely.  They comfort you when you are sad, and they help you when you are in need.  They are often responsible for making God visible to us through their actions and their words.  Friends are to be cherished and if you are lacking friends, you need to look within yourself and make sure that you are displaying friendliness, joy and hope with your life.  But sometimes, despite your best efforts and even though you are displaying the love of Jesus through your friendliness, you may find yourself separated from your friends.  During these times it is very important that you realize that Jesus is your friend.  In fact, He is the best friend you will ever have.  He will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). So, if you are lonely and feeling alone today, I encourage you to lift your voice to the Lord and embrace His presence in your life.  I would also encourage you to look at those around you and see what you can do to make them your friend.  After all, it has been said, bloom where you are planted.  Remember, Jesus loves you.  You are loved!

Prayer:  Lord thank you for being a friend that sticks closer than a brother, that is always there and who cares deeply for me.  Lord thank you for never leaving me and always wanting to fellowship with me.  Lord, I love you.  In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
