Song: “What a Friend We Have In Jesus”
Charles Crozat Converse

What a friend we have in Jesus
All our sins and griefs to bear
And what a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer

Oh, what peace we often forfeit
Oh, what needless pain we bear
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer

Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged—
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Can we find a friend so faithful,
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness;
Take it to the Lord in prayer.

VERSE:  II Corinthians 1:2-3—“Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ.  Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;”

The Merriam Webster dictionary defines grace as unmerited divine assistance and peace as freedom from oppressive thoughts or emotions, a state of tranquility.  The apostle Paul in this passage is greeting us all with the grace and peace that comes from Jesus.  He allows us to know that when Jesus touches our lives, we have unmerited favor and emotional peace.  In fact, he further lets us know the character of Jesus.  He is the Father of mercy and the God of all comfort.  The dictionary defines mercy as compassionate treatment of those in distress and comfort is to give strength and hope.  In Jesus we have all of this.  Regardless of the situation, if we put our trust in Jesus we will have access to His assistance, live in peace, know the benefits of His compassion and have strength and hope.  Jesus is our Hope.  Jesus loves you.  You are loved!

Prayer:  Lord thank you for being a friend that is always there who listens to my prayers and provides my every need.  Lord thank you for your grace, your mercy and your love.  During these times of difficulty and stress, teach me to trust you more.  Help me to remember that you are daily loading me with your benefits.  In Jesus name I pray, Amen.

*Sunday and Wednesday encouragements are written for our friends in Assisted Living, who we are unable to see regularly, due to COVID. We pray they are a blessing for you as well!
