Lessons to Live By

Of all of God’s creations, He chose to create us in His image (Genesis 1:27).  Wonderfully and perfectly made (Psalm 139:14) in the image of God, yet we don’t serve Him or praise Him like many of His other creations.  The sunrise speaks of His amazing watchcare over us, as we made it through the night.  The birds sing continuously, reminding us that God has His eye on even the tiniest sparrow, providing for their every need (Matthew 6:26).  The winds move at the will and pleasure of God, cooling our face and brushing our hair back reminding us that though we can not see Him with our natural eyes that He is there.  The waves move rhythmically back and forth, stopping where God has drawn the line in the sand. These truths remind us that even the powerful winds and waves obey His voice (Matthew 8:27). Every day and every moment we are made aware of God’s presence.  Daily His creations are teaching us meaningful and valuable lessons.

For instance, let’s look at the eagle.  When a storm comes the eagle rises above the storm.  When the eagle sees the storm approaching it sets it’s wings so the wind will pick it up and lift it above the storm. We as Christians, need to employ our faith and rise above the storms of life and rest in the presence of God’s love and peace.  We need to set our faith and sights on God and allow Him to pick us up and carry us through the storm.  But, perhaps my favorite lesson from nature, is that of the shark.  One of the most sought after aquarium fish is the shark. It is majestic and powerful. From a standpoint of beauty, it is easy to see why so many people would want the shark in their aquarium.  But, what about the shark’s size?  These majestic creatures grow to be upwards of 8 feet.  How could you ever keep one in an aquarium?  The answer lies in how the shark responds to its environment.  A shark only grows to the length its environment will support.  So, too, it is with Christians.  If you surround yourself with ungodly people and live with ungodly habits you will not grow to be a strong, vibrant Christian. You will not reach your potential in Christ.  But, if you are diligent with whom you surround yourself and you are careful to follow God commandments, including His commandment to “study His Word” (II Timothy 2:15), you will be a large and powerful light for the world.  You will be a majestic Christian, full of the fruits of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).

As God’s most precious creation, we must learn to praise Him as nature praises Him.  We must learn lessons from His creation that help us to live a fruitful and peaceful life in Jesus.  “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.  Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil,” (Proverbs 3:5-7).  Listen, Look and Learn.  Jesus loves you. You are loved.
